The Trade Center complex ( consisted of 7 buildings) was originally called Radio Row. The PANYNJ (Port Authority of New York and New Jersey) is a joint group of people appointed by New York and New Jersey is in charge of this area, along others. Six people are appointed by the New York governor and six people are appointed by the New Jersey governor. In 1964 PANYNJ gave $3000 to the business owners from Radio Row.
Don’t get confused that this is a good sum of money and covered relocation at all. The $3000 was given to each business regardless of the size of the business or how profitable it was. Three thousand dollars may not seem not very much money and you are right it is not but in 1964 $3000 was about $23,000. You can’t buy property with that amount of money. You also would have to get your product, shelving, and other business necessities out of that building and into another store front.
The PANYNJ is a government owned group. Law says that people are suppose to get their property bought from them at a fair price but the government just stepped in and took it. You may say that they gave them money for it but it is essentially stealing when you give much less than what it is worth.
The World Trade Towers was then owned by the government and there is no way they are not making a bundle on the rent even in 1973. That is the year the WTT went up. Then the Port Authority agreed to lease the Twin Towers to lease the twin towers to Larry Silverstein just two months before the Twin Towers were hit by two planes.
Now there is some speculation on whether the planes actually hit the towers or they just came down because of strategically placed bombs on a particular floor. Since I was not in NYC that day it would be hard for me to say if they are creating movie magic or if they really did hit. But Larry Silverstein was set to make a hefty sum by these building coming down when they did. My closing thoughts is to make sure you research you opinions and flesh out your ideas. The worse thing you can be in this world is unsure. Pick a side and stick with it. Make up your own mind.
