Bayview Hunters Point Environmental Justice Response Task Force to kick off July 22

Bayview Hunters Point residents are invited to attend the first monthly meeting of the new Bayview Hunters Point Environmental Justice Response Task Force on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, 2-4 p.m., at Southeast Community College, Alex Pitcher Room, 1800 Oakdale in Bayview Hunters Point.

Community members, industry representatives and officials from local, regional, state and federal environmental agencies will be present and will participate in this important task force to remedy pollution problems in the community.

Residents attending this meeting will be able to bring pollution concerns to the attention of top government officials, including State Department of Toxic Substances Control Director Barbara Lee and California EPA Assistant Secretary for Environmental Justice and Tribal Affairs Arsenio Mataka. Representatives of USEPA, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, San Francisco Department of the Environment, San Francisco Department of Public Health, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and the Regional Water Board will also be present and participate in the task force.

Residents attending this meeting will be able to bring pollution concerns to the attention of top government officials.

This task force is being initiated by Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice as a collaborative, multi-stakeholder, problem solving effort that will promote health and a clean environment, build trust and collaboration among diverse stakeholders, and promote community resiliency and involvement.

A key focus is getting government and industry to respond quickly to pollution concerns and cut through bureaucratic red tape that has often resulted in pollution problems not being solved.

An exciting and important part of the project will be the creation of a website and mobile app that will enable residents to file online pollution complaints and track responses on their computers and smart phones. Greenaction will conduct community trainings so that residents young and old can learn how to file pollution complaints quickly and effectively.
