(Before It's News)

Indiana’s USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service is working to provide relief to farmers affected by this year’s drought.  State conservationist Jane Hardisty says they have made additional haying and grazing resources available to farmers.

“I had the authority to grant some haying and grazing on our Wetland Reserve Program acres because some of that area is grasses,” she says. “There is a large area that is in trees – but there are some areas that would have enough forage that could provide some feed for livestock.”

Landowners that have acres in an easement under WRP can begin to hay and graze those acres.  Hardisty tells Brownfield all haying under drought provisions must be completed by September 1st; while grazing is to be completed by September 30th
