Missouri Governor Jay Nixon on Monday declared a state of emergency for Missouri because of the prolonged severe heat and drought and its effects on agriculture and public health and concerns about fire risks.
Nixon is also making stops with Ag Director Dr. Jon Hagler in Springfield and Mexico, Missouri today to announce an emergency cost-share program to help Missouri farmers access and provide water for crops and livestock.
The governor has ordered the activation of the state’s emergency operations plan which means state agencies can now provide direct assistance to local communities as needed and provide it quickly.
