The DVD of Iron Man 2 hits stores this week. And by utter, complete coincidence, one of the actors involved in the hero flick found his way to the Salt Lake City test lab of Raytheon Sarcos, checked out the prototype exoskeleton there, and declared it “the closest thing we have to the Iron Man suit.”
Raytheon envisions two models for its exoskeleton. One will be strapped to the lower body, and will help grunts in combat ease the loads on their backs. (Kind of like Lockheed’s “HULC” super-suit.) The other — a tethered, full-body version == will help troops haul more heavy equipment back on base.
The company thinks it could have production models ready in five years. Additional promotional videos will undoubtedly come much, much sooner.
