More dead fowl have been found at a lagoon in Chicago’s McKinley Park, officials said.
The Chicago Commission on Animal Care and Control and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources are investigating why so many birds are dying near the lagoon. Seven geese and two deceased mallard ducks have been collected from a small island near the lagoon.
This week alone, Animal Care officials say they have collected a total of 28 birds.
Animal Care and Control, along with the Chicago Park District have warned people against fishing or walking pets near the area.
A Chicago Park District official said poisoned water was suspecting of being the issue, possibly cause by a certain algae, but local agencies are still working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to determine a cause for the sudden deaths of so many wildfowl.
