Faker fills seat left open by arrogant, angry liar
Disgraced Democrat Daniel Patterson who resigned before being expelled from a District 29 House seat, made a small error in his final fit of pique as he left during an Ethics Committee hearing. Out the door and angry that his Dem cohorts were leading the charge for his ouster, he switched his registration from Democrat to Independent. Patterson was being investigated for repeated allegations of domestic violence, uncontrolled anger, intimidation of legislative colleagues and drug use.
The committee’s 33-page investigative report can be read here.
According to Arizona Revised Statutes 41-1202, (Section 1C), the vacancy was to be filled by a member of the same party. In Patterson’s odd case, that was a registered Independent.
Enter Nicholas Fontana, a 42-year-old native peoples lawyer and quick change artist. In the blink of an eye, the Democrat reregistered as an Independent in time to put his name in the hopper. His resume can be read here. The last page clearly shows he registered as an Independent April 14, 2012 — just over a week ago.
The Pima County Board of Supervisors, apparently as eager to conspire against the South Tucson voters as Patterson, selected Fontana over four other candidates.
With the recent rash of legislative vacancies, (Sens. Bundgaard, Pearce, Sinema and Reps. Adams, Burges, Miranda and Patterson) this flawed situation begs to be addressed. There should be a minimum length of time one is registered with the party from which they chose to run.
It should not be a week.
