Netflix Continues to Jump Hurdles and Expand Service to Latin America
Although only 20 percent of Brazil’s 42 million internet users have a connection speed over 500 kilobytes per second and streaming movies requires at least 800 kilobytes Netflix continues to push towards expansion in Latin America. Netflix announced its plan to bring Fox Network’s television series and films into the area’s streaming portfolio.
Series that will be available after July 15th for streaming include, Prison Break, 24, The X-Files, and Arrested Development. Current and past seasons of Glee, How I Met your Mother, and Bones will also be available. After July 1st, Fox films such as, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Wall Street, and Office Space will also be available.
Although the CEO of the internet movie company admitted on April 23rd that this Latin American expansion faces some hurdles, the company still continues to push towards spreading into Central and South America as well as the Caribbean. Yet, this hurdle could prove even more daunting as DirecTV announced this week that it had added 593,000 additional Latin American subscribers in its first quarter, according to Paid Content.
