Try as he might, Quayle can’t walk on water
Politico reports that the FBI has launched a probe into a 2011 congressional fact-finding trip to Israel that turned rowdy. The news source says establishment-backed, freshman Rep. Ben Quayle, now running in CD 6 was one of five congressmen whose antics included drinking and skinny-dipping in the Sea of Galilee.
One of those congressmen, Kevin Yoder of Kansas, is alleged to have swum sans clothing after drinking. Some of those present took photographs of the group right after the late-night swim, according to news accounts.
After the lawmakers and staff returned home, FBI agents questioned the staffers about the privately funded trip, specifically about what happened in Tiberias.
During his first campaign, Politico previously broke the story of Quayle’s denial — and later admission — that he had been writing for The Dirty Scottsdale, a soft-porn website using the alias Brock Landers, referencing a porn star in the film “Boogie Nights.” Gannett-owned Channel 12, which is also the parent company of the Arizona Republic, ran this video at the time.
This morning’s edition of the newspaper, headlined Trip by GOP lawmakers probed, has a boxed highlighted response from “the Quayle family” signed by Ben’s wife Tiffany, in which she disputes the carousing.
Quayle is challenging Congressman David Schweikert in a bitter primary, in which Quayle moved from the district he represented in to a home said to be owned by his parents. Redistricting placed him in a less favorable political configuration –away from his elite friends and supporters in the town of Paradise Valley.
“I am disappointed but not surprised by Ben Quayle’s behavior in Israel,” CD 6 Congressman David Schweikert, who was also on the trip, said. “Two years ago he embarrassed Arizona with his involvement in an adult website and now, as a congressman, he embarrasses both the institution of Congress and Arizona with his completely inappropriate behavior that calls into question yet again his fitness to be in Congress.”
While Jesus walked on water on the Sea of Galilee and fed 5,000 people thereafter, Ben Quayle is unable to walk a straight line or tell a straight story but is trying to feed 200,000 Arizonans his version of facts once again.
The Politico report states: GOP sources confirmed the following freshmen lawmakers also went swimming that night: Reps. Steve Southerland (Fla.) and his daughter; Tom Reed (NY) and his wife; Ben Quayle (AZ.), Jeff Denham (Calif.) and Michael Grimm (NY). Many of the lawmakers who ventured into the lake said they did so because of the religious significance of the waters. Others said they were simply cooling off after a long day. Several privately admitted that alcohol may have played a role in why some of those present decided to jump in.
