Long known to be in the grasp of death throes, the Periódico de la República de Arizona (Arizona Republic) takes to its own front page to dispatch a message by publisher John Zidich. After engaging in historic hyperbole regarding the now shrinking and dying newspaper — even having the nerve to assert. “our success is due to one thing: the commitment to great content with a well-rounded news report and a primary focus on deep, quality local stories” — Zidich gets to the essence of his communiqué — the subscription and print distribution of this left-wing bastion isn’t cutting the mustard.
“That model will not work for the future. To meet your demands, to meet you in every format — and to continue to be a vibrant, positive part of our community — that model has to change,” writes Zidich. Costs, we are told will increase, as the República offers options that range from full access digital-only to full access with seven-day delivery of the print edition. Non-subscribers will be able to view a limited number of articles before they are required to subscribe.
By far our favorite take-away line from the article, Delivering news in the Digital Age was this admission: ‘We’re intensifying our watchdog-reporting efforts, enhancing our storytelling capabilities and tackling community-leadership initiatives to help make this a better place to live, work and play.’
Got that? Even the top dog at the República admits to “storytelling’ rather than reporting. There’s no question that has been the newspaper’s approach to all coverage concerning the illegal invasion into our state and deceptive, slanted “storytelling” on conservative elected officials and issues. This fraud of a newspaper, with a staff that would make wild west snake-oil salesmen blush, has functioned as head cheerleader for recalls and defeats of conservatives, while relentlessly promoting the initiative to separate us from our vote. In a rare departure from the prescribed agenda, columnist Robert Robb exposed the deception as an anti-conservative ruse. (His column can be accessed through our post. The question is, for how long?)
Judging from the comments following Zidich’s online post, the new format will have a run of people in a rush to subscribe…NOT.
The new format, signaling the ultimate demise of the República, begins in September.
Seeing Red AZ has been dedicated to exposing the biased and irrational stance the newspaper has taken over the years. The liberal deceit and agenda filled excesses are well documented. Here are just a few:
Daily’s promotion of political sham revs up
Muslim Brotherhood: AZ Republic sham reporting hits new low
Arpaio rates AZ Republic’s quintuple whammy
More from AZ Republic’s unbridled Absurdity Dept.
The story the AZ Republic won’t report
República blames young hit-and-run victim
República offers GOP sage advice, torrent of insults
If this whets your appetite, there is a boatload full of such examples under the category Beating the Drum, found on the right side of our Home Page. Click on “Previous Entries” at the bottom of each page. We provide countless examples of the AZ Republic’s unconcealed prejudice against conservative vantage points and predisposition for liberalism.
THAT is the reason the daily fishwrap is dying.
