I’m involved with Cop Block because I want to live in a better world, free from institutionalize violence.
The surest way to get there is not through any top-down mechanism (such as voting, which only reinforces and gives legitimacy to the bad idea that some have the “right” to control others) but from the bottom-up, one mind at a time.
As each of us decides to reject the use of coercion – that is the initiation or threat of force to gain a desired end, and instead interact with others on a consensual basis, we make the world better. Not just for ourselves, but those in our sphere.
Be the change you wish to see. - Gandhi
The best way to get there is by sharing ideas. Ideas have consequences. That’s why I’m involved with Cop Block – to have a conversation about what might be a better way for policing/protection to be supplied, other than through the current top-down monopoly that operates according to the flawed idea that its actors have a legitimate right to initiate force. Focusing on police is important because they are very literally the teeth, or enforcement arm, for the bad idea of “the state.”
The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas. - Linus Pauling
It’s my belief that when introduced to better ideas, someone who’s open-minded will discard or modify their inconsistent ideas. In this case, that means acknowledge the harm caused and compounded by ones vocal or tacit support of double-standards for an individual simply because that person wears a badge. Once that idea is internalized, it can be acted upon and disseminated further, until one day soon (and happening at an accelerating rate thanks to technology that bypasses censors), the idea that someone has extra rights based on their place of employment will be recognized by all as ludicrous.
Books won’t stay banned. They won’t burn. Ideas won’t go to jail. In the long run of history, the censor and the inquisitor have always lost. The only sure weapon against bad ideas is better ideas. The source of better ideas is wisdom. - A. Whitney Griswold
One of the best communicators in the YouTube world that I’ve yet come-across that shares ideas along this vein is Aaron Hawkins, who operates StormCloudsGathering. Months ago I added his video An Open Message to Police & Military to CopBlock.org/About and I frequently share his video, The Chain of Obedience.
In the interest of sharing ideas and creating a better world, I ripped those two videos, as well as two others from his YouTube channel, and uploaded them to Cop Block’s YouTube channel.
Watch these videos. Think. Act.
Connect with StormCloudsGathering- The truth is extreme to make it moderate is to lie.
As a people we stand on the edge of a precipice of our own making, and it is imperative that those who understand this realty fight back to alter the outcome. The odds don’t matter anymore.
