Deferred Action Workshop Tuesday (8/21) at 4:00 p.m. CT For Pre-Registered Invitees Continues Effort to Satisfy Overwhelming
Demand for Deportation Relief and Recruit Volunteers

Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL-4) will host a workshop for young immigrants eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or seeking more information on the deportation relief program for young immigrants eligible for the DREAM Act.  Trained volunteers and attorneys will help immigrants who meet the basic criteria of DACA (see link below) to prepare an application for the program.

NOTE:        Registration for the event on Tuesday, August 21 at Benito Juarez High School at 4:00 p.m. is closed, but those seeking information on future workshops should go to www.gutierrezregister.com to sign-up for e-mail alerts and more information on future workshops and events.

Congressman Gutierrez participated in the DREAM Relief Day event at Navy Pier on August 15 where more than 10,000 young people and their families lined up on the first day applications were being accepted by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).  He says the event at Benito Juarez High School on Tuesday is the first in a series of events he is organizing with community-based organizations, faith groups, and political leaders to satisfy the incredible demand for information and assistance in filling out the application.

“The crowds and enthusiasm at Navy Pier last week showed me the hunger for this program in the community and with a little patience, hard work, and a helping hand from volunteers, we are going to get everybody who is eligible signed-up,” Rep. Gutierrez said.  “My office is training volunteers so we can hold dozens of events in and around Chicago where people can get the help and information they need, free of charge.  We have already met with 75 pastors who will set up mini-workshops in their churches.  The message to the community is clear: we are going to help you determine if you are eligible and help you apply if you are.”

Five hundred pre-registered guests are expected at Tuesday’s event and anyone who shows up in addition to those who are pre-registered will be given an opportunity to sign-up for future workshops hosted by the Congressman and community and faith groups.  Those seeking information on future workshops should go to www.gutierrezregister.com to sign-up for e-mail alerts and more information on future workshops and events.  Volunteers for future workshops can also sign-up for training.
