Peter Maya is facing kidnapping and battery charges after he hid in the trunk of his ex-girlfriend’s car and climbed into the backseat and attacked her.
Police say Maya, 24, was hiding in the trunk of Keisha Bethel of Oakland Park, Florida earlier this month when Bethel got in, unaware of his presence, and began her drive home from work.
Shortly after she left work at Barnes & Noble, Bethel says Maya climbed into the back seat from the trunk and began hitting her in the head. When Bethel attempted to flee the vehicle, Maya reportedly grabbed her, pulled her back in, and resumed hitting her. He then moved into the driver’s seat a headed towards Miami.
While he drove, Bethel says Maya threatened to intentionally crash the vehicle. Once in Miami, he stopped the car and took off of foot, leaving Bethel in the vehicle.
The couple had been together for 6 years when they split this past April. They have three children together and were co-owners of the vehicle involved. Prior to the split, Maya and Bethel lived together for four year.
Maya is currently being held in Florida’s Broward County’s main jail.
