New Mexico Girl Has Facebook Account Disabled for Having the Name Selena Gomez
An 18-year-old girl in New Mexico is furious after her Facebook account was disabled because of her name…Selena Gomez.
She recently told TMZ she tried to sign into her account on Wednesday but was denied and shown a message. In the message, it states her account was disabled because it was marked an “inauthentic account.”
The message goes on to say her account was found to be in violation of the Facebook Terms. Listed below that statement is a list of possible violations. Among them are:
- Impersonating anyone or anything is not allowed.
- Facebook profiles (timelines) must represent individual people only. It’s a violation of these guidelines to use a profile (timeline) to represent anything other than yourself (ex: celebrities, pets, ideas, objects).
While rules like these make sense, it did not explain why this Selena Gomez, who uses her middle name specifically to avoid being confused with the former Disney starlet, had her profile disabled.
She told TMZ, ‘I did not have one single famous friend. I did not refer to myself as [the famous Selena], and I did not have any pictures of her on my page!’
For now, Selena Miranda Gomez is without access to her social networking profile, but says she has reached out to Facebook in hopes of reactivating her account.
