Huckabee v. Palin: Dueling Missouri U.S. Senate endorsers
Despite Sarah Palin’s trek to Missouri to campaign for another Sarah — Palin’s candidate of choice, Sarah Steelman, landed with a thud, coming in third. Election results can be seen here.
Missouri U.S. Rep Todd Akin, with broad tea party support, broke out of a three-way GOP primary fight to win the nomination and the ability to take on big government liberal Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill in November. McCaskill voted for government imposed ObamaCare as well as the failed stimulus package.
This election has crucial national implications in the GOP quest to gain control of the U.S. Senate, which Democrats hold by a four-seat majority.
By defining himself as the most conservative of the three primary candidates, Rep. Akin won with 36%, beating out Sarah Palin’s candidate of choice, former state treasurer Sarah Steelman, and self-funded businessman John Brunner.
Akin, a former Army officer, engineer and state lawmaker, who first won election to the U.S. House in 2000, was endorsed by former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.
About Palin‘s endorsement, John McCain had this to say, “She energizes our base. That’s the great talent she’s always had. It happens all the time. You’d be amazed.”
Yep.
