Jorge Cruz-Gallardo, Jr., 25, of Guadalajara, Mexico, been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, with no parole for assaulting and causing bodily injury to a Border Patrol agent who was trying to detain him.
On February 2, 2012, Cruz pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Randy Crane to the assault charge, acknowledging that on May 10, 2011, he ran from agents who spotted him in a group of suspected illegal aliens south of McAllen and near the Rio Grande River.
When one of the agents caught up with him, Cruz resisted and assaulted the agent, causing him injury.
Cruz has been detained since the assault where he will remain pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility in the near future.
