Tennis Great Rafael Nadal Withdraws From U.S. Open

Tennis great Rafael Nadal issued a statement saying he will miss out on the U.S. Open due to his knee injury.

The Spanish tennis player, currently ranked 3rd in the world, had also dropped out of Olympic competition due to his injuries.  Nadal last won the U.S. Open in 2010.

Nadal statement noted that ‘he is still not ready to play’ and will focus on his ‘recuperation’.  The former number one player in the world lost in Wimbledon earlier this year, to a low seeded player to the shock of many.  Nadal was ranked the top player in 2008 and 2010, currently Serbia’s Novak Djokovic is number 1 from 2011 statistics.

The U.S. Open will start on August 27 in Flushing Meadows, New York.
