The wounded man was the would-be robber, who pointed a shotgun at another man and demanded money as the man was getting into his vehicle at Walgreens on College Street late Friday, according to a Beaumont Police Department report.
The intended victim, a concealed handgun licence holder, managed to retrieve his gun and fired a shot at the robber, who dropped the shotgun and ran away.
Patrol officers quickly began searching for suspect assisted by police dogs. A man matching the robber’s description with a gunshot wound to the hip was found behind a business near Corley and Interstate 10. The intended victim positively identified the suspect as his assailant.
