The recent declassified CIA document about the fallacy of the US justifications for the Iraq war attests to Washington’s rapacious strategy to “devour” the oil-rich country without leaving the Iraqi nation with any alternative, a political analyst says.
“What the CIA file documents is the fact that Iraq was ferociously devoured in the belly of the CIA beast not as a country with a dictator as its leader but as a nation which was denied the opportunity to hold its fate in its own hands and get rid of its dictator,” political analyst Dr. Ismail Salami noted in an article published on Press TV website on Saturday.
“The sheer ouster of Saddam Hussein as a dictator barely justifies the innocent blood that was spilled in Iraq and a military invasion of such colossally devastating proportions,” he added.
On Wednesday, CIA, declassified a document, admitting to “analytic liabilities” that resulted in false US intelligence estimates on Iraq’s non-existent weapons of mass destruction, leading to a major war.
The 2006 review shows that the case for war against Iraq rested on a number of falsehoods, all of which came from the US intelligence community’s failures in assessing Iraqi weapons programs in the lead-up to the Bush administration’s 2003 invasion.
The document notes that the failure on Iraq’s non-existent weapons of mass destruction marks a complete fiasco for the US intelligence community.
Salami noted that the increasingly awareness of the international community about the realities of the US hegemonic intents heralds the outset of “a new age of social and political enlightenment.”
“Washington’s monophonic urge to decide for the world is growing weaker and weaker every day with a powerful polyphonic global voice taking the place of the old one. In short, the world is developing greater perceived need for sustainable peace and security,” the analyst pointed out.
Prior to the 2003 military occupation of Iraq, the US intelligence community had claimed that Saddam Hussein, backed by Washington throughout the 8-year war he waged against the Islamic Republic of Iran in the 1980’s, was hiding stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons.
In 2003, just before the US military invasion of Iraq, top American officials, including then Secretary of State Colin Powell and CIA Director George Tenet, appeared before the UN Security Council and offered what they claimed to be specific intelligence accounts pointing to the Iraqi efforts to hide their arsenal of chemical and biological weapons.
