The criminal organization known as Los Zetas posted  several ‘narco-mantas’ or banners throughout many  municipalities in Veracruz, such as Tihuatlan, Poza Rica, Martínez de la Torre, and Papantla.

According to the newspapers in that region, like Noreste, La Opinión de Poza Rica, and  El Diario de Tuxpán, the banners accuse former Gulf Drug Cartel leader Osiel Cárdenas (captured in 2003) of being a DEA informant.

Also, they accuse two of their own members, Iván Velázquez Caballero, aka. El Talibán or Z-50 (Captured yesterday by Mexican Marines),  and Cruz Galindo, aka. Z-9 or El Mellado, calling them ‘traitors.’

In these narco-messages written on banners, Los Zetas accuse the DEA of supplying weapons to the Gulf Drug Cartel, in order to carry out ‘terror attacks to destabilize the country.’ Further, they mention that the DEA allows Cardenas to make phone calls from his prison cell so he can issue orders to Gulf Cartel members and rat out Zeta bosses.

Los Zetas also make mention of the Knights Templar (Caballeros Templarios):

“Why do you act dumb, Knights Templar? You know Osiel makes phone calls to you from the inside. Because the gringos still allow him to organize. We know that Attorney Guerrero went all the way to Morelia and spoke to José de Jesús Méndez Vargas, aka. El Chango (ex-leader of La Familia Michoacana and founder of the Knights Templar), and Nazario Moreno (also founder of the Knights Templar, Fast and Furious gun buyer, and killed by Mexican Federales) . Just ask El Chango and Costilla and you’ll see that we’re not lying.”

In reference to the DEA or the U.S. Government arming the Gulf Cartel to ‘destabilize the country,’ Los Zetas write:

“It was done to trigger the war, and to destabilize the country. The gringos give them the weapons through Attorney Guerrero. Why all of this? Ask yourselves how much sense does it make to place car bombs? They’re not being placed by a Zeta boss to kill you, nor the civilian population. They’re being placed so they can say that there is terrorism in Mexico and they’ll have an excuse to stick their noses here. Don’t be fooled by the Gulf; they are DEA informers.”

The banners also make brief mention of  Iván Velázquez Caballero, aka. “El Taliban,” accusing him of being a traitor and an informer, although it is not specified if he worked for the DEA or the Gulf Drug Cartel.

“That’s how you’re going to end up, putos! And that’s if I don’t get to you first. You’re going to end up ratting yourselves out. And El Taliban is now gone because he and El Mellado (Cruz Galindo, aka. Z-9) were infiltrators, here with us.”
