Last year, José Angel Santana filed a lawsuit against New York University for allegedly firing him for giving actor James Franco a “D”.
After Santana gave his side of the story to various media outlets, Franco finally spoke up, telling the New York Post the NYU professor simply was an “awful” teacher.
Franco took Santana’s course in pursuit of his masters in fine arts degree and said he skipped12 of Santana’s 14 directing classes because ‘I didn’t feel like I needed to waste my time with a bad teacher.’
Regarding the wrongful termination lawsuit Santana filed against NYU last year, Franco stated, ‘No teacher will ever be fired from NYU for giving a student a ‘D.’ He wasn’t fired, he was asked not to come back after three years because they didn’t think he was a good teacher.’
Now Franco himself is on the receiving end of a Santana lawsuit, as the former professor is claiming the 127 Hours star made “disparaging and inaccurate public statements” about him.
The lawsuit was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday. Santana is seeking unspecified damages.
As for the lawsuit against the university, Franco once said of Santana, ‘He’s not going to win the lawsuit and he’s not going to be hired at another institution.’
