Meditation is not just for adults. Research has proved that children who meditate do better on tests, have higher self esteem and in general are more at peace with themselves and the world around them. Adults may not think of meditation as something that a child would enjoy doing. In many cases once a child is introduced tomeditation, it is something that they really can enjoy and make theirs.
Several large corporations and associations including the American Heart Association are funding program to help schools hire professional meditation instructors. Schools are jumping on the idea because they have seen the affects meditation has on their kids.Once students have learned the basics of meditation and have started to practice it regularly they have increased mental focus, improved reading skills, they are more creative and generally have better overall physical health. They have also noticed that the students that meditate regularly have better relationships with the other children around them. There are schools through out the country that are already incorporating meditation into the school day regimen.
It is unfortunate that many children have never been exposed to meditation in the home. Some adults find meditation to be intimidating and look at it as work. But meditation can be fun. There are several different types of meditation that you can try with your child. There really is no right or wrong way to do it. Using the method that is comfortable and works for your child is the best way for them. Just remember to keep meditation sessions simple and flexible. The length of a session really depends on the age of the child, their activity level and their attention span.
