Four members of a family were fatally shot inside their home in the eastern Guatemalan province of Zacapa, authorities said Wednesday.
The attack took place Tuesday night in the hamlet of La Plancha, about 156 kilometers (97 miles) east of the capital, a spokesman for fire rescue said.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene and the fourth died later at Zacapa regional hospital.
A fifth person was gravely wounded.
The victims were shot in their beds by two assailants who arrived at the home on a motorcycle, according to the preliminary investigation.
A mother and her three grown children were murdered last Thursday in the eastern province of Chiquimula, a crime that came less than a week after two gunmen killed three women and an 8-month-old baby in the town of Asuncion Mita, 190 kilometers (118 miles) southeast of Guatemala City.
Seven members of a family, including two minors, were slain Oct. 13 in Villa Canales, just south of the capital. A man identified as Cesar Chavez was arrested the following day for allegedly ordering the murders in connection with a land dispute.
Guatemala saw 4,406 homicides in the first nine months of this year, down 5 percent from the same period in 2011, according to the Mutual Support Group.
