Juan Luis Guerra and Juanes Celebrate 2012 Latin Grammy Nominations

Juanes and Juan Luis Guerra celebrated their Latin Grammy nominations in Miami after a joint project that came to fruition in the Colombian artist’s album “Tr3s Presents Juanes: MTV Unplugged.”

In an exclusive interview with Efe, Juanes and Guerra said they were very grateful for the many Latin Grammy nominations they had received.

Nominated for Album of the Year and Best Long Form Video, Record of the Year and Song of the Year – for the cut “Azul Sabina,” Juanes said that the rapport he enjoys with Guerra and the creative freedom in the project were key to the success of “MTV Unplugged” in terms of the nominations it received.

He recalled the first time that his Dominican colleague began recording the album, for which Guerra is the producer, last year.

“Juan Luis came to the rehearsal and said I’m not going to talk, I’m not going to do anything, I’m just going to record. You play what you’re going to play,” commented Juanes, who was surprised and performed about 24 songs.

“Right from the start, to be very clear, this project was born out of love and that was the line that guided the entire process of creativity and rehearsals,” he added.

While the pair are awaiting the Nov. 15 Latin Grammy gala in Las Vegas, they both are releasing details about the joint concert they will give at New York City’s Barclays Center on Nov. 24.

Each performer will sing his best numbers and they said they “hoped” the concert would spark interest in a joint tour next year.

The concert and possible tour are the product of the great chemistry between the two men that crystallized in an album like “MTV Unplugged,” which Juanes described as being full of “incredible and very refreshing” songs.

Among the numbers that became part of the album are “Fijate Bien,” “Nada valgo sin tu amor,” “Es por ti,” “A Dios le pido,” “Volverte a ver,” “La camisa negra,” “Me enamora” and “Hoy me voy,” performed with Brazilian singer Paula Fernandes, among others.

And to the surprise of many, the song “Azul Sabina” has made it big. The number was written by Juanes, Guerra and Spanish singer-songwriter Joaquin Sabina.

Meanwhile, Guerra took advantage of the occasion to thank the Latin Recording Academy for the opportunity to become the artist with the most Latin Grammy nominations.

Besides the ones he shares with Juanes for “MTV Unplugged,” Guerra has collected a total of six nominations, including Producer of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year for “En el cielo no hay hospital.”
