(Before It's News)

(RAW STORY)   Kellogg Company has recalled millions of boxes of cereal over fears of contamination from metal fragments that fell off during manufacturing, according to a document filed with US authorities.

A company spokesman said late Wednesday the recall concerns some 3.2 million boxes of “Mini-Wheats” cereal sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The recall applied to Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size Original and Mini-Wheats Un-frosted Bite Size cereal with use-by dates from April to September 2013, according to a notice filed with the US Food and Drug Administration.

In a separate statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Kellogg said the recall would cost $20-30 million and would be reflected in its third quarter results.

It added, however, that it believed the losses would be mitigated by other factors, especially the strong performance of its Pringle’s potato chip business, which it purchased from Proctor & Gamble earlier this year.

Kellogg had to recall 28 million boxes of popular cereal brands Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops and Honey Smacks last year after consumers reported a strange odor and taste, with some experiencing nausea and diarrhea.
