The Telegraph, as well as many other major news outlets are reporting on this developing story. Nurses, firefighters, teachers, and some of the 1 million unemployed young people marching against austerity does seem vaguely newsworthy.
One would be inclined to believe these types of massive protests would garner the attention of the BBC, considering they are (allegedly) the public’s news. However, the top stories, according to the BBC are Mitt Romney, a footballer’s t-shirt, and elites laughing.
RT is far from perfect, and will rarely shine the light on Russia’s corruption or civil rights violations, but at least they offer English news based in reality. Finding news, like video of today’s protest, that isn’t sanctioned by the corporate interests that are being protested is difficult, and is why more and more people are turning to foreign or independent agencies and people.
