“”They encourage the current decision makers to take care of our natural resources through advocacy, planning and submissions to government policy. They help educate the decision-makers of the future through an array of individual education and awareness programmes and they work together through liaison and co-operation in order to become ever more effective in ecological and environmental protection.””
Basically they should be advising Phil Hogan on policy in relation to environmental matters. The IEN claim the right to claim to represent the env. pillar by claiming to represent the majority of ngo groups i.e. 27 groups. In reality An Taisce controls the IEN and most of the other groups do not even know the power they really should have. The IEN got about one million last year and this is drip fed to the 27 groups who happily attend meetings and come home with a pocket full of money.
We need 28 groups to sign up to a document objecting to An Taisce, VOICE and IPCC claiming to represent the Environmental Pillar of Social Partnership. We then become the Environmental Pillar of Social Partnership. We then question any one of the stupid decisions of Phil Hogan ie the septic tank charge and by so doing we drag the Social Chamber of the Social partnership into the debate. Then we find that only David Begg (some union head) is representing the Social piller. Then Shit hits fan. Why were the people not properly consulted with, before paying the bond holders,??. Who elected David Begg to represent anyone??. etc. http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/0123/economy.html. A bit from a peport. Note the last few lines, “””
The Government and the social partners have held an intensive round of talks today on the Government’s plans to cut public expenditure.
ICTU has said no details of the Governments plan to save €2bn were presented to them at a meeting with Government officials this evening.
A call from IBEC to have the National Wage Agreement deferred has caused difficulties in the process, according to David Begg of ICTU.
Mr Begg said this evening that Congress Executive Council is to meet to discuss the call on Monday.
Mr Begg had expected to get more detail from Government at the meeting today but said he expected no further developments over the weekend.
He said that despite two days of Cabinet meetings and discussion with the social partners today, he is none the wiser as to what the Government intends doing to reduce spending.
I see this plan as a simple way to bring down the government by peaceful means and playing within the rules the government has already put in place. We attack from within. We beat them at their own game. We have the people already to fill the social and env pillar and we should be able to decide who we want to represent us on these pillars.
UPDATE.
At the Comedy & Conversations night last Wednesday in the Bad Ass cafe an issue was brought to light by one of the attendees which is as follows, the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) of Ireland has published a document in which Ireland is defined (by people including An Taisce, VOICE, IPCC) as having ‘no indigenous people present’.The issue of indigenous people was discussed in one of the breakout groups and afterwards with the whole group. It was decided that a statement would be drafted objecting to this definition, to these groups assumed right to make and support such a statement and to state that we consider indigenous people to be defined as anyone living in Ireland for more than 10 years.
Everyone agreed to then take this statement to our respective groups and seek endorsement confirmed by a letter from each group stating support. This will then be presented to the EU Commissioners when they are in Dublin Monday 8th October.Paul Byrne has drafted up the enclosed letter from what was discussed. The crux of the problem in that the current definition is that there are no indigenous people at all and that needs to be addressed. We determined at the meeting that this is all about land ownership and hence this is very important, as ‘they’ are incrementally transferring title of everything over, ultimately, to the banks. Can everyone who receives this email please take the statement to their respective groups and see if the group will endorse it. If so please draft a statement of support, or use the enclosed, on headed paper, signed, and email it back to Paul directly, cc’d here and stick a hard copy in the post to Paul Byrne, c/o Glenhest, Tinnakilly, Aughrim, Co. Wicklow. Paul will compile the statements of support and have them ready to present. We need to take action on this asap so Paul can present the letters on Monday 8th.
