Dreams provide a world in which we escape from reality. When we dream and sleep, we feel helpless and we think we no control of what is happening in our dreams. However, taking control of your dream is possible and that is exactly what lucid dreaming is all about.

For a long time it was believed that lucid dreaming is nothing but fiction, but today this technique is even utilized as therapy. Psychologists and other experts use lucid dreaming as treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder, social anxiety, phobias and many other serious conditions.

As fascinating as it may sound, we all know that experiencing lucid dreams is very difficult, or at least that is what we have always heard. Yet, there are people who can easily raise awareness of the fact that they are dreaming and thus become lucid dreamers. How do they do it?

Lucid dreaming is about being in control.

To truly get inside the mind of lucid dreamers is not easy, but there are tricks that can help is to achieve a hybrid state between sleeping and being awake, which is called lucid dreaming.

With a little effort and practice everyone can become a lucid dreamer. In this short video, created by AsapSCIENCE there are some valuable scientific tips how you can start experiencing lucid dreams.

Basically, one of the first things you should start with is to keep a dream journal close to your bed at night, and write in it immediately after waking.

You should also perform reality checks. Look often at the clock to see what time it is. In dreams time and words are often entirely different.

Next comes a technique called Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams, (MILD). This part is about reinforcing the idea that you are dreaming.

Another important step is a technique called Wake Induced Lucid Dreams, (WILD) which allows you to experience a conscious dream at the time you choose. One can say that you enter lucid dreaming through sleep paralysis. That can be a somewhat awkward feeling and it’s difficult to describe. You just have to experience it to understand how it feels.
