U.S. Diplomat to Travel to El Salvador and Mexico to Discuss Global Youth Issues

Special Adviser for Global Youth Issues Zeenat Rahman will travel to San Salvador, El Salvador, from October 15-17, and Monterrey, Mexico, from October 17-19, 2012.

In San Salvador, Special Adviser Rahman will further U.S. government citizen security efforts in Central America by meeting with Vice Minister of Justice and Security Douglass Moreno. She will also meet with youth leaders from organizations such as Jovenes contra la Violencia de El Salvador. She will meet with alumni from the Global Undergraduate (Global U-Grad) Exchange Program and Youth Ambassadors. Special Adviser Rahman will tour Organización Empresarial ¡Supérate!, a youth leadership development organization that offers an after-school program for at-risk youth ages 13-18.

In Monterrey, Special Adviser Rahman will meet with the post’s Youth Council (embassy-led councils comprised of a cross-section of youth advisers to provide input into the United States’ presence in and contribution to their country and play a key role in the design and execution of programs to address local issues) and organizations that work with at-risk youth. She will have a meeting at Tec de Monterrey, one of Mexico’s most prestigious universities, with students who work on youth employment projects.

She will attend a truce-signing ceremony between gangs at Nacidos Para Triunfar, an organization to lead at-risk youth out of local gang involvement.
