WISN News in Wisconsin reports “mass casualties” near the Brookfield Square Mall. A shooting spree has taken place either at or near the Azana Salon and Spa, which is across the road from the shopping center in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Seven people have been confirmed as injured and transported to Froedert Hospital. All injuries have been said to be non-life-threatening.
The suspect has been described as a heavy-set, bald black male, driving a 2003 black Mazda Protege with the license plate 171-KZD. Police report that the scene is still active and witnesses say that the shooter fled in the direction of the mall, which has been locked down.
Police, sheriff’s department personnel, fire trucks, a Flight for Life helicopter and SWAT teams are on site. (UPDATE 2:35) They have been joined by Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) hostage negotiators and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) agents.
(UPDATE 3:20) Wisconsin governor Scott Walker released a statement: ”As we wait for further details from the shooting today in Brookfield, Tonette and I send our thoughts and prayers to the victims. Senseless acts of violence leave us with heavy hearts and many questions. Our state will stand with the victims and their families, and we will provide them with the law enforcement and community support they need to heal in the coming days.”
(UPDATE 3:35) Radcliffe Haughton, 45, of Brown Deer is being sought by police with regard to the shootings.
