A Maltese artist makes the longest chocolate train in the world as Brussels Chocolate Week kicks off. The 112-foot long train set a new Guinness World Record as the longest chocolate structure.
At a busy train station in Brussels, Belgium a new train has just pulled into the station. And it’s the longest train in the world. The longest chocolate train that is.

It took over 700 hours to create and is 112-feet long, making it the longest chocolate structure on record.

And it is being recorded.

The Guinness Book of World Records measured it on Monday, verifying it’s almost three thousand pounds of pure chocolate and the longest chocolate structure to date.

It’s so long, it even created the category of longest chocolate structure in the world.

[Andrew Farrugia, Chocolate Artist]:
“…Actually it was going to be much smaller than it was, but I kept on adding another wagon, and another wagon, and it’s the size it is today.”

And the length isn’t the only impressive thing about the train. The intricate detail the artist used makes it look impressively life-like.

[Andrew Farrugia, Chocolate Artist]:
“Something like this, there’s no moulds involved. Everything is done from an idea, sketches, then you have to do the plans for each wagon, and then you have to start the build-up…”

But despite his careful plans and sketches, nothing could prepare it for a bumpy ride to the expo site.

Three days before the event, the chocolate train was almost derailed during the train ride to the South Brussels train station.

Now the artist has taken it to the shop and is fixing the damage caused during transit.

The first seven wagons are modeled after the new Belgian trains, and the rest of the train is inspired by the old train wagons.
