While this is bound to elicit gales of laughter from the Likud gang, there is at least one prominent Israeli who agrees.
Maj. General Giora Eiland was the architect of Sharon’s Gaza withdrawal. Unlike the Netanyahu acolytes who seem incapable of seeing beyond the next election, Eiland has a vision for long-term peace.
And that is fundamentally incompatible with the blockade. The main achievements of the blockade are to solidify Hamas’ power base, keep a million and a half Gazans perpetually pissed off, and make Israel look bad in the eyes of the world. None of these effects are in the long term interests of Israel.
Alas, the reign of buffoons and imbeciles seems destined to last a little longer. Let’s hope there’s still something worth saving when people of goodwill and reason finally pilot the ship of state.

Only after Palestinian’s publicly renounce all violence against Israel and their people with severe punishment by their own people against those that do, will the people of the world help them with their plight. Israel would then have no longer a reason for violence against them, being condemned internationally for any attacks. They would also have to allow other Arab nations to supply them aid and rebuilding costs. As with the rest of the world land ownership and national borders change after 60 years regardless who owned what before it will never change back and a generous compromise as in Europe over the centuries will have to be reached. The stronger country always having the upper hand. To renege on the none violent agreement would turn world option against them and probably the total destruction of anything gained and their people, a trap which would be foolish to fall into. Swallow your pride and take the best deal before you are destroyed as a people and a nation. Remember Jews prefer to trade rather than fight.
