(Before It's News)

Radiation levels on Mars are safe for humans, data from the Curiosity rover has revealed.

In a press conference, Southwest Research Institute’s Don Hassler said that “The astronauts can live in this environment,” CNET says.

According to NASA, the radiation levels on Mars are like that experienced by astronauts at the International Space Station.
Hassler, who serves as the principal investigator of Curiosity’s Radiation Assessment Detector added in a statement that “The atmosphere provides a level of shielding, and so charged-particle radiation is less when the atmosphere is thicker. Overall, Mars’ atmosphere reduces the radiation dose compared to what we saw during the flight to Mars.”

Nonetheless, Curiosity found that on the way to Mars, astronauts would experience radiation levels that are double to what they will be subject to on the planet …. http://socialbarrel.com
