While the distinction between a holistic biological dentist and conventional dentist is a topic worthy of discussion, both groups use the same chemotherapy drugs for your teeth, without your consent…but more on that later.
It might surprise you to know that when your dentist uses a compressed air powered surgical drill to excise decayed tooth enamel and dentin from your cavity, the mechanical action of high speed drilling creates internal heated microfractures within the dentin, driving tooth decay bacteria deeper into the microtubules within dentin. This is referred to as iatrogenic damage due to high speed drilling.
Your holistic dentist should be taking precautions against tooth decay bacteria surviving in your infected dental cavity because, unlike a silver mercury filling which has natural antimicrobial properties of silver ions protecting the tooth, the resin composite tooth colored filling recommended by many biological dentists can actually create a hard plastic environment that seals, into the microtubules of dentin, bacteria that survive, thrive, and continue the tooth decay process under the filling.
Using the most up-to-date scientific knowledge as of this article’s date, the only means your dentist has to be reasonably assured he/she has stopped dead the bacterial decay process deep within the tooth is by scrubbing its internal surface with an antimicrobial chemical drug. Today, as a routine protocol all dentists, including holistic dentists, should be using chemicals to kill tooth decay bacteria in your infected cavity.
The most popular and effective chemotherapeutic agent used for the disinfection of internal surfaces of teeth to prevent the survival of carious bacteria is a solution of 5% glutaraldehyde and 35% HEMA (hydroxyethyl methacrylate) in water.Yes, it’s toxic to the human body and might not be part of a holistic person’s arsenal for at home antibacterial protection, but that’s the best your dentist has for stopping the decay process in your tooth. And you don’t have much choice in the matter unless you opt out and jeapardize the integrity of your treatment, or can find a dentist willing to risk his/her dental license with malpractice by experimenting with unproven but more biocompatible agents such as ionic silver hydrosols, Schweitzer Formula. In a nutshell, here’s the one reason your dentist doesn’t ask for your informed consent to let him/her use chemotherapy on your teeth. It’s soon becoming the standard of care for all dentists, conventional and biological.
