If most scientists favour evolution,
why do most of them assume that more “advanced life” would be anything other than ruthless?
That is what evolution points to.
Scientism is where the term “scientist” directly stems from-
not science.
“Scientism,
in the strong sense,
is the self-annihilating view that only scientific claims are meaningful,
which is not a scientific claim and hence,
if true…
not meaningful.
Thus, scientism is either false or meaningless.
This view seems to have been held by Ludwig Wittgenstein in his
Tractatus Logico-philosophicus (1922) when he said such things as “The totality of true propositions is the whole of natural science…”

Most so-called “Scientists” are actually only slaves of “Scientism”.
The problem I have with Hoaglund’s theses are that he rejects religion as divisive and therefore ALSO effectively rejects God or considers Him passive or irrelevant.
However,
if you reject God whom you cannot see,
why replace Him with man whom you can see?
The current decisions humanity is facing
(yet are mostly not even aware of)
are extremely long-term in scope.
As Einstein said decades ago,
“It has become painfully obvious to me that man has entirely too much power-
and to make matters worse,
he wants even more and he can’t even handle what he already has!”

Also,
what Hoaglund has to say here does not mean much when your own death is imminent.
What comes next becomes of greater importance.
This is not fear or selfishness-
it is simple prudence.
Here,
Hoaglund is only attempting to articulate some viewpoints already dogmatically held by many.
He is not saying anything new.
He is essentially considering this more important than anything-
even God or what comes next,
which is potentially far greater in scope,duration&intensity.
Religion is not what causes wars-
greed,pride and UNforgiveness cause wars.
Certain opportunists then capitalize and exploit the situation-
whether they be bankers or “religious” men.
If they are wolves in sheep’s clothing,
you cannot blame the Shepherd for the wolves!
My problem with all this is that it presupposes that man must reject God to become a god
and my experience has been that when men play God they end up acting more like the devil.
Consider that poetically if you cannot take it literally.
At any rate,
getting rid of money will not get rid of greed-
getting rid of “religion” will not get rid of nationalistic friction from pride&unforgiveness.
The Muslims and the Jews will fight over Temple Mount until the End.
There are deeper roots to the
strife of man than diplomacy could ever begin to fathom.
Those who have not lived there cannot understand…
and most who live there don’t really care whether the rest of the world understands or not.
