Regardless that the plaza was packed with children and adults and in the same block a group of Matachines dancers were paying tribute to the Virgin of Guadalupe, gunmen staged a shootout killing two and injuring one in the November 7 colony in Nuevo Leon.
Monterrey’s Green Cross paramedics rushed to the shot victims, but upon arrival the emergency medical staff found no signs of life in a young man nicknamed “El Nene,” 17, whose body was thrown in front of a house on the sidewalk.
Reports indicate that two more youths were taken in a private car to a nearby clinic. Due to the severity of the victims who were taken in two Green Cross ambulances to University Hospital, a second death was declared at the Hospital and the third victim is being operated on by surgeons.
Neighbors said they heard more than 40 gunshots.
The attackers, apparently four gunmen, escaped in a vehicle but authorities have no information as to make and type.
