Porting is the new milking. 

The trend of Newcastle University students pouring milk over their heads is now a bit yesterday.

Scholars at Durham University have a new craze of going into supermarkets, buying a bottle of port, walking out into the street and dousing themselves with the tipple.

The antics, which are filmed and have been watched by tens of thousands of YouTube viewers, were revealed in Durham’s online student newspaper the Tab.

The site described it as a “cracking effort from Durham’s finest” and aims to go one better than Newcastle’s ‘milking’.

A spokesman said: “It’s all about one-upmanship. We started out trying to get one better than our student cousins at Newcastle but, due to our lactose intolerance, we were unable to do it with milk.

“We commend Newcastle in their valiant effort – inspiring us to go one further. 

“We were approached by a high street washing powder brand and it all fell into place. What better thing to do than pour fortified wine over crisp white shirts.”
