Murderer Mistakenly Released, An Indiana man convicted of murder has been mistakenly released from Cook County Jail, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office and the Indiana Department of Correction.
At least two Chicago police investigators said they received alerts Thursday afternoon that noted that Steven L. Robbins, 44, was mistakenly released from the jail Wednesday evening. Reported chicagotribune….
He was described as a black man, 5 feet 5 inches tall and 190 pounds, and he has a tattoo on the right side of his neck that reads “Nicole.”
Robbins had been sentenced to 60 years in prison in 2004 for murder and carrying a handgun without a license. He was serving time in Indiana State Prison when he was brought to Illinois to appear in Cook County Court for a warrant in connection with a 1992 armed violence and narcotics case.
Robbins was arrested in June 2002 in a Merrillville, Ind., motel, in connection with the May 12, 2002, slaying of Richard Melton, of Kentucky, in Indianapolis, according to news accounts at the time. Melton was visiting Indianapolis with his mother for a relative’s funeral and he got into a fight with Robbins, who then shot him on the street…………….more
