Israeli border guards have stormed another Palestinian protest village newly set up in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, Press TV reports.
Israeli forces shot tear gas canisters and rubber bullets at the Palestinians, injuring many of them, including a Palestinian officer. Most of the injuries were caused as a result of tear gas inhalation.
The protest encampment was set up as part of a non-violent initiative in the village of Anin to protest Israeli land grabs and express solidarity with Palestinian prisoners being held without charge or trial in Israeli prisons.
The tent camp was named Al-Asra, meaning prisoners, and was located next to the Israeli-made separation wall.
“First of all, Anin is… the first village that has been affected by the wall. Most of its land became isolated behind the wall. So this village has been suffering for now more than 10 years of this situation,” Jamal Jumaa of Stop the Wall Organization said.
Anin Initiative is also aimed to support the prisoners who have been held in Israeli jails since two years ago, he added.
Over the past two weeks, Israeli forces have raided and dismantled several Palestinian protest encampments in the West Bank set up by Palestinian and foreign activists with the aim of challenging Israeli expansion policies and settlement activities at the so-called E1 area near East al-Quds (Jerusalem).
The E1 project aims to connect the West Bank settlement of Maale Adumim to East al-Quds, about six kilometers away. The plan will cut off the northern part of the West Bank from the south.
