An Oklahoma father stands accused of beating his son because he was rooting for Oklahoma University and not Oklahoma State University (OSU).
Gannon Mendez, 42, allegedly abused his 9-year-old son with a wooden paddle and forced soap into his mouth because of his choice in football team, but this was not the only time he allegedly assaulting the boy.
According to KOCO Eyewitness News 5, Mendez has woken his son up in the middle of the night to do push-ups or force him to run until he vomited.
Mendez’s allegiance to OSU is far more than an average fan, however, as he is an OSU booster. In fact, according to a 2011 FoxSports story, OSU football players were banned from making contact with Mendez after he allegedly gave players “impermissible extra benefits.”
An affidavit confirms that when investigators interviewed Mendez’s son at the Payne County Youth Center he had bruises on is legs, buttocks, and back. Investigators were tipped off about the abuse by the boy’s step-sister.
Mendez was released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to return to court in April.
