The United States Hispanic Leadership Institute will feature AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign during the 2013 USHLI National Conference. Conference attendees will be encouraged to learn more about the dangers of texting while driving and take a pledge to never text behind the wheel again.
The centerpiece of the “It Can Wait” program will be a virtual simulator where drivers can experience firsthand the distractedness caused by texting and driving. “Texting while driving has become a bad habit for many drivers, both young and old,” said Juan Andrade, USHLI President, “It is important to educate drivers that they jeopardize their lives and the lives of their passengers, other drivers, and pedestrians when they look at their phones while driving. I hope that many of our attendees embrace the ‘It Can Wait’ message and pledge to never text and drive again.”
In addition to the simulator, AT&T will sponsor several workshops to highlight the consequences of texting while driving and present strategies to avoid this behavior. More than 6,000 individuals from 40 states are expected to attend the national conference.
