At 18.18 GMT white smoke billowed from the chimney of the sistine Chapel at the Vatican in St Peters Square Rome. The name of the new Pope is to be announced within the next few minutes.
It’s now 18.25 and the name of the new Pope has not yet been announced but the chosen one will be readying himself for his first appearance. He will be in what is known as the ‘Room of Tears’ where he will dress ready for his first audience with Catholics world wide. Before appearing he will, with advisors, choose his name, the name he will be known as as he lets go of his old life and starts on the path that Catholics believe will see him acting as Gods Messenger.
He will go alone to the Pauline chapel and say solitary prayers and then, at the appointed time, he will be announced to the public.
