The public prosecutor’s office in Bahrain said on Wednesday that six people had been detained for allegedly defaming the country’s ruler on Twitter. The six, who were not identified, were detained over the past few days, and will be charged with misusing Twitter and insulting King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the prosecutor’s statement said. Two days ago, a court acquitted rights activist Mohammed al-Jishi of spreading false news on Twitter.
