I’m Bertha, the world’s largest-diameter tunneling machine. In summer 2013, I’ll start digging the SR 99 tunnel to replace Seattle’s Alaskan Way Viaduct.

@Mariners Extra large! I’d like to attend the home opener on 4/8, but I’ll still be in many pieces. Plus I’d take up too many seats.
Two of my five largest pieces have boarded the ship that will take me to Seattle. The rest of me is waiting in line. pic.twitter.com/pSNSDcrPFW
Anyone know how to knit? Could use an extra large #Sounders scarf for my cruise to Seattle.
A look at the launch pit where @BerthaDigsSR99 will begin digging below Seattle this summer. The pit is 80% done. pic.twitter.com/HN84T6grCB
I’m set to arrive in Seattle in late March. Come to Milepost 31 tonight at 6 p.m. to learn more about my trip. http://1.usa.gov/Z2GHUJ
Well, I’m in pieces here in Japan. Don’t worry, that’s part of the plan. I’m being loaded on a ship bound for Seattle.
Nice photo, Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce. I’ve been staring longingly at it all day. See you soon, launch pit. http://bit.ly/YEIixs
The Nisqually earthquake struck Seattle on this day in 2001. Did you know tunnels do really well in earthquakes? http://1.usa.gov/ZEaHqC
I’m not the SR 99 Tunnel Project’s only boring device. Check out the drill working at the tunnel’s north portal. pic.twitter.com/gagCJcCB7r

I suggested WSDOT allow skateboarding in my launch pit until tunneling starts this summer. They politely declined. pic.twitter.com/KFtYNiF1So
