My name is Jeff Sexton, and I’m working on a novel I’m calling Sons of Thunder that in part deals with bad cops. Basically, the all too familiar scenario of a wrong house no-knock raid (ala Kathryn Johnston) opens this story, though in this particular case a man’s wife dies in the inferno created by the police and the man himself is severely maimed.
And here’s where I asked for Pete to allow me to use Cop Block:
In writing this tale, I want to highlight real stories of the worst abuse by cops we know of. Stories so bad that even many inclined to like and ardently defend cops will say that these guys needed to at least be jailed, and these people may even say these cops no longer deserved to live. While I plan to fictionalize the names of the cops and aspects of these tales to work them into the backstory for many of my cop characters, I also intend to provide an appendix at the end of the novel with the news reports of the actual stories – so I’ll need those as well, please. For now, let’s just say that with what I’ve got planned, and what I’ve got planned for the one character whose backstory I already know in particular, to have any form of commercial success I’m going to need many of my cop characters to be as bad as they possibly come in order to keep my audience reading.
Along the way, I’ve got some ideas to draw attention to Cop Block, InnocentDown.org, and the Fully Informed Jury Association. Indeed, as the concept currently exists, all three play pivotal roles in uncovering the cover up when the raid is made public.
But to pull this off, I really need your help.
Thanks!
