On Monday night, at about 9:00 p.m., a CBP officer conducting inspections of vehicles and travelers referred a white 1992 Jeep Cherokee after detecting anomalies to the jeep’s gas tank.
CBP officers conducted an intensive examination of the vehicle and discovered 19 wrapped packages of cocaine concealed inside a non-factory compartment in the tank. The street value of the narcotic is estimated at approximately $576,000.
The driver, a 26-year-old male U.S. citizen and resident of Yuma, Arizona, was arrested and transported to the Imperial County Jail to await arraignment in federal court for the alleged smuggling attempt.
