David Cameron views the bid to get a song mocking Baroness Thatcher’s death to number one with “personal distaste”, his spokesman has said.
The BBC is at the centre of a new row over the death of Baroness Thatcher after admitting it may broadcast the song on Sunday.
Ding Dong the Witch is Dead, a song from the Wizard of Oz, has sold more than 20,000 copies this week after anti-Thatcher campaigners encouraged people to buy it to celebrate the death of the former Prime Minister.
It is currently number four and on course for a place in the top five by the time The Official Chart Show airs on Sunday, three days before Lady Thatcher’s funeral.
Experts say the song only needs to secure a few thousand 79p downloads to topple current No 1 Duke Dumont’s Need U.
The Prime Minister’s spokesman told the Evening Standard he regarded the matter with “personal distaste” but that the decision whether to ban the song or not was “a matter for the BBC”.
Steve Says…
Politicians… You’re all just hired scum, working far outside your remit and the populous at large is waking up to the idea. About the same worth level on the scum ‘o’ meter as bankers, royalty and the pervert priests and the other parasitic filth of humanity. You’re time of corruption, murder, greed and vileness is fast approaching its demise. When this happens the whole world will be dancing in the streets. Have you fooled yourself into thinking that when your time comes, you and your ilk will fair any better ? You Sir, are fast becoming the next figure of ridicule and loathing along with that other murdering filth Blair.
