George Lopez to Make Television Return with FX’s ‘Saint George’

Comedian George Lopez is returning to television with a series on FX called “Saint George,” playing a recently divorced Mexican-American man from a blue collar background who becomes a successful entrepreneur, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Lopez’s character “struggles to balance his demanding ex-wife, his 11-year-old son, his overbearing mother who just moved in, and his uncle, as well as his new role as a philanthropist ‘giving back’ by teaching history once a week at a night school,” according to FX.

FX and Lopez agreed on what is known as a 10/90 arrangement.

The network buys 10 episodes up front and if they meet a specified ratings target, FX automatically agrees to order 90 additional shows.

“In the tradition of George’s frank and fearless standup comedy, Saint George will reflect his no-holds-barred comedic take on the tensions surrounding race, class, sex and family life in Los Angeles through the eyes of a man straddling two separate cultures,” Lionsgate Television Group President Kevin Beggs said.

The comedian and actor starred in the ABC comedy “George Lopez” for six years and later hosted a late-night talk show on TBS.
