64-year-old Eugene Maraventano thought his years of enjoying prostitutes had caught up with him when his wife became ill. When wife Janet became ill and cancer was ruled out Maraventano was convinced it was HIV.
The Arizona man then killed his wife by stabbing her to death while she slept. Maraventano also murdered the couple’s 27-year-old son, Bryan, that lived with the couple. He described his son as ‘mentally disabled’, incapable of living without his parents and never having had a girlfriend.
Over the next four days Maraventano staged several unsuccessful suicide attempts while the two family members corpses laid in the house. On Saturday he called authorities and told them what he had done.
A suicide note was recovered in the Goodyear, Arizona house. Maraventano was treated at a hospital for injuries suffered during his suicide attempts and is now in jail on a $2 million bond.
