Spanish police are investigating the death of the first secretary of the Libyan Embassy in Spain, whose body was found in her home with signs that could mean she died a violent death, authorities said Tuesday.
The body of Faucina M.A., 58, was found by her daughter last Friday afternoon in her home on a downtown Madrid street.
Paramedics confirmed the death and police launched an investigation, although initially it did not seem that foul play was involved because there were no indications of robbery in the home and the dead woman had suffered from health problems, sources close to the investigation told Efe.
However, the autopsy revealed that her death could indeed have been due to an attack, although this has yet to be confirmed, according to the same sources.
So far, no further details have been released in the case and the representative of the Madrid government, Cristina Cifuentes, said that she could not provide any more information because doing so could impede the investigation, although she did acknowledge that the death had occurred “under strange circumstances.”
